Chandramohan"Charlie" Manohar Sharma (Shah Rukh Khan) is a street fighter who was longing for revenge out of renowned businessman Charan Grover (Jackie Shroff) for 2 decades.  Grover branded Charlie's dad, Manohar Sharma (Anupam Kher) as a burglar because Charan had tricked him stealing his very own diamonds worth $15 million.  Charlie finds out that diamonds value 300 crore($39.48 million) will hit the Atlantis Hotel, Dubai on Christmas Eve.  He needs to steal the very same diamonds and framework Grover.  To achieve this, he builds up a lively team comprising Jagmohan"Jag" Prakash (Sonu Sood), a hard-of-hearing strongman, Tehamton"Tammy" Irani (Boman Irani), a classic and seizure-prone safecracker and Manohar's closest buddy, Rohan Singh (Vivaan Shah), a young smart hacker, and a lookalike of Charan's son Vicky Grover called Nandu Bhide (both played by Abhishek Bachchan).
Tammy is the only person that will open the vault.  The group finds out that area 9C, attached to the vault by means of a duct system, is reserved for groups participating in the World Dance Championship (WDC).  The team fails, however, Charlie re-motivates the team, forcing them to develop into a dance group.  The movie goes to a flashback-- Manohar fulfilled Charan Grover and has been given a contract to construct an impenetrable vault.  Following the vault was finished, Charan drugged Manohar and tricked him into stealing the diamonds with his fingerprints.  The movie returns to the present, where desperate to acquire the national-level contest, they use many dance instructors, but to no avail.  In desperation, Nandu introduces Charlie to Mohini Joshi (Deepika Padukone), who's a Marathi pub dancer.  Mohini is amazed with eloquent English utilized by Charlie from the very start and finally agrees to help them understand dance, oblivious of the aims.  Charlie and Mohini grow really near.
They figure out how to qualify from the first round by blackmailing the judges and finally win the contest to represent Team India from the WDC by gaining votes via hacking.  Many viewers hate them because of their lack of ability, but Charlie and his group (sans Mohini) are only worried about the heist.  Back in Dubai, Team Korea is particularly hostile towards Team India, such as Grover, their host.  In the semifinal, Charlie conserves a Korean manhood from acute injury or death, immediately gaining respect and respect from the crowd.  India advances to finals after judges have been transferred by Charlie's actions.  Team India becomes adored by all.  After entering the program, everything is prepared.  Regrettably, the group finds that the diamonds will probably arrive on New Year's Eve rather than Christmas, which impedes the heist.
Mohini ends up hearing the heist, angrily confronting Charlie and his fictitious motives of this contest.  Charlie shows that Manohar is really dead; after the arrest, he appealed for a trial, but Grover bribed Manohar's attorneys and tampered with the evidence.  The following day, Manohar committed suicide by slitting his wrists.  Charlie kept this a secret to prevent demoralisation.  On the other hand, the group makes their decision to avenge Manohar even more powerful, such as Tammy.  Mohini joins the group and aids them to the heist.
The night of the last round, the heist is put in motion.  Mohini lures Vicky to an elevator, in which his thumbprint is replicated on Nandu who opens the room.  They start the crack but Charlie and Tammy locate another glass secure which homes the diamonds which may open just with a 7-digit password.  Tammy comprehends that Manohar constructed this secure.  Charlie opens the secure afterwards after deep thinking, realising the password to open the safe was his very own name.  After stealing the diamonds, the group boards a ship, but Mohini will not emerge as she feels committed to safeguarding India's honor with all the contest.  Rohan joins her too, resulting in a struggle amongst the rest of the members.
When Team India is located missing, Grover asserts they are the thieves.  As he sees Mohini perform, other members join .  Shortly afterwards, Charlie makes a look and finally helps the team win the contest.  With all suspicions eliminated from Team India, Charan and Vicky Grover are detained.  Charlie shows himself to Charan and slides in his pocket exactly the identical razor blade Manohar slit his wrists together with, finishing his revenge.  Team India hit the airport and be able to skip safety.  Charlie camouflages the diamonds into his soft-drink, however, the safety guard disposes of it.  Afterwards, during the trip, Charlie shows he switched the imitation diamonds on the decoration with the actual ones.  The group reaches India.
From the post-credits scene, Mohini opens her own"Dance School" and Charlie suggests to her having a ring created from among those diamonds.  Everybody then laughs at Nandu, who's thrown from the lender for demonstrating a winners' cheque.  Rohan finally increases immense popularity among the women, whilst Jag takes over directing the movie being made sooner, together with the first director today the bomb control.  Tammy currently has lots of the older women pursuing him as their hero.  Having been given a long term sentence, Charan and Vicky Grover are currently viewed in a Dubai city prison, still begging for his or her own innocence.

The soundtrack gained largely positive reviews from music critics.
Kasmin Fernandes in The Times of India felt,"As a heist film centred around a dancing contest, Happy New Year provides lots of fodder for both composers Vishal and Shekhar and lyricist Irshad Kamil to flaunt their manner with noises.  And they have delivered, together with seven first tracks, one digital edition, a version, a medley and also an instrumental number" [37] Rohit Vats for Hindustan Times gave the album 3 out of 5 stars said,"Farah Khan appears more worried about the sense of her picture than the grade of the tunes, and it compels her to go with cool tunes.  In general, the record is typical and is just youth oriented.  Obtaining longevity isn't going to be easy for this record." [38] For India.com, Prathamesh Jadhav wrote,"it is a mixed bag!" [39] On the opposite politician Surabhi Redkar to get Koimoi believed,"Happy New Year record isn't quite as extravagant as the movie appears.  With an expectation of a Bollywood musical soundtrack, it comes down to some normal record of Vishal-Shekhar.  Though the album will probably be a hit tracks like Manwa Laage and Kamlee, it won't like much strength."
